Many ask how we go about calculating the overall gallons in any particular pond that we are contracted to install, or more often when someone is looking to purchase a Do-It-Yourself Premier Kit from our Retail Showplace.

Using the calculator below, simply enter in the measurements of your pond in the following format:

Length  x  Width  x  Average Depth  x  7.48

For example, say you want to have an 11' x 16' pond installed at a standard 2' depth.

Your formula would be: 11  x  16  x  2  x  7.48 = 2633 gallons

Our experience in the industry has taught us that you must absolutely turn-over your total water gallons ONCE EVERY HOUR to maintain water quality on smaller water gardens.  If you have, or plan to have a fish load in your pond, your more ideal target is going to be 1-1/2 - 2 times per hour to maintain beautiful water quality.  In the case of the 11' x 16' pond example that we used, we would recommend a 3000gph pump at a minimum, with a 4000gph or 4500gph the more ideal solution.  Larger ponds are safe in the once every two hours range.
