We have been installing the newly available LED lights for three years now
and we and our clients love them. The colors are so bright that
they really stand out and get noticed compared to standard mini-lights.
These new LED lights not only stand out due to their brightness, they
also stand out due to their energy efficiency. Many homes only
have one electrical circuit serving the entire exterior of the house.
If this is the case, LED lights are the answer to many electrical supply
problems. What we previously lit with mini-lights using three or four separate
circuits now can be lit with one circuit using
LED lights.
Some Quick LED Facts:
- LEDs were developed from semiconductor
technologies in the 1970s. Today, highly efficient LED flashlights,
holiday lights, traffic signals and exit signs are available.
- LEDs are constructed from tiny
solid-state chips similar to those used in computers. These chips
directly convert electricity to light without the use of a filament or
glass bulb. Instead, the chips are encapsulated in solid plastic that
are made into a variety of shapes and sizes.
- LED lights look different, appearing to
shimmer because the bulbs are faceted.
- LED lights are much more energy
efficient than standard incandescent lights, using 95% less energy.
- LEDs last up to 10 times longer
(100,000 hrs).
- LEDs are safer, they don't heat up and
wont dry out your tree.
- LED bulbs are made of plastic so there
are no glass bulbs to break.
- Up to 125 strands of commercial quality
LED's can be connected end-to-end without overloading a typical 15 amp
household electrical circuit.
-
LED lights come in many colors and costs
vary by color, with blue and white being the most expensive and red
being the least. Although LED lights have a higher initial cost,
the amount saved in energy costs outweighs the initial purchase price.
When you compare the cost to purchase and operate the lights over five
years (see chart below), the savings are clear.

Local Ozaukee
county sources report that the safest and best way to hang your holiday lights
just may be to have Hurth Waterscapes do it for you!
Don't risk a fall that could ruin your holidays,

Actual Study: Fall-Related Injuries during
the Holiday Season, United States, 2000-2003
During the holiday season
about 5,800 people, two to three every hour, were treated in
emergency departments for fall-related injuries sustained while
decorating during each of the 2000, 2001 and 2002 holiday
seasons.
- The majority of those injured in falls while decorating
for the holidays (62%) were young and middle-age adults
(20-49 years of age). In contrast, this age group comprises
only 30% of people injured annually in falls.
- Most holiday decorating-related falls were from ladders
(43%), followed by falls from roofs, furniture (including
step stools), stairs and porches.
- Fractures were the most frequent holiday
decorating-related injury (34%). Slightly more than half
(51%) of the fractures were caused by falls from ladders.
